Exploring Southeast Texas

On our Sunday afternoon outing to explore, we saw a few of the refineries that are in Southeast Texas. ExxonMobil, BP, Valero, and Marathon are some of the big players and Goodyear right here in Cheek.

Many oil related industries like building and refurbishing off-shore drilling rigs are visible.

We saw men and equipment at work after the largest oil spill in 15 years in Texas, when an 800 foot tanker collided with a towboat pushing two barges causing a spill of 462,000 gallons of light crude oil into the Port Arthur waterway.

Our drive continued on to Sea Rim State Park on the Gulf Coast knowing it was closed. This park has over 4000 acres of lake and marshland with 5.2 miles of gulf shoreline. The park was extremely damaged by Hurricane Rita in 2005 and again by Hurricane Ike in 2008.

Parts of the park are still used as a day use area by locals and by a 4 x 4 club in their Hummers which passed us while we took a stroll on the windy beach.

We arrived home to a beautiful sunset over Ford Park.

Back to work on Monday installing lino in Mr. John's bedroom.

The neighbours pony accompanies Paul as he digs a trench for the sewer pipe. There appear to be few plumbing codes here if any. This solution will at least move the sewage from behind the house to a ditch at the back yard.

Annette and Maryann scrape off ceiling texture so it can be patched and primed.

Jim, Pete, Annette and Agnes completed the King house fascia and soffiting in a day. This being our third job like this in 3 weeks has helped us to become more efficient at it.
Your comments are welcome....will post again in a week.
