Cheek, TX - January 2010

The history of Cheek, Texas began in 1906 when it was laid out by J. R. Cheek along the Gulf and Interstate Railway. Cheek was inhabited largely by rice farmers using Beaumont's irrigation canal.

Our crew getting ready to head out to the job site with the tool trailer in tow on Monday morning after getting job descriptions from our new MDS director Warren.

Our client Mr. John spends a lot of his time sitting in this chair watching the world go by. He was disabled by electrocution in a construction accident.

We started our work week by helping move furniture from two bedrooms into the carport and removing paneling and insulation from one of the rooms.

Bernie and Paul worked at changing the entrance panel and all the wiring while John replaced termite damaged studs and installed drywall. After discovering the condition of the old wiring with oversized breakers, Bernie was amazed that this house hadn't burned.

Linda modeling her tyvek "mudding suit" which she found while doing inventory in the storage unit.

Jim and Pete began work at Miss Luanna's home by removing the old fascia and soffiting Monday afternoon.

Repairing termite damaged rafter ends and putting up new fascia boards.

Agnes and Annette made a great team and quickly learned how to install soffiting. Agnes commented "this looks good . . . I can't believe we're doing this".

Our week began with frosty mornings, but by noon the sunshine had us shedding some layers of clothing. Showers on Thursday afternoon interrupted our work and continued into the weekend giving us time to blog and rest up.
