Week Two - Exploring Texas State Parks

On our trek southward we stayed at Lake Bob Sandlin State Park for two rainy nights. This campsite gave us a pleasant lake view and due to the rain we spent our day reading and watching a movie.

We had a pleasant sunny drive to our next stop at Mission Tejas State Park in the Davy Crockett National Forest. We extended our stay to four nights in this relaxing wooded retreat where we hiked and explored the local history.

This is a replica Mission built in the 1930's by the Civilian Conservation Corp and is now being restored.

Notice the Mission's unique hatchet door latch.

These state parks are in the Pineywoods area of eastern Texas which had a very dry summer, but was now receiving frequent heavy rains causing local flooding.

We arrived at our MDS destination of Cheek, Texas on Saturday afternoon. Our camp is located at the Ford Park and our sites are the ones normally used for hosting entertainers at the pavilion when they perform here.

We were treated by the other three couples with a delicious supper.
