Home Dedication for Ms Tomeka

Traditionally Sunday lunch is a treat from MDS. Our directors, Norm and Carolyn chose Peck's Old Port Cove Restaurant located near the gulf coast where the sea food arrives fresh and served up real well. Jim and I shared a new to us dish - Blackened Grouper Fish platter with Jim adding a Garden salad. It was great.

Our home is in a large campground next to a river and about eight miles inland ---elevation four feet above sea level. Morning dew is often heavy, causing tracking of sand indoors at our work places.

All week long the work continues with the goal to finish our tasks at Ms Tomika's double wide mobile home for the home dedication planned for Thursday afternoon.

Carolyn, Cyndi and Annette enjoyed being outdoors in the morning painting baseboards under the trees.

The ladies continued painting room by room while Jim followed with the laying of lino and then of course the baseboards.

Cyndi and Bob working on the living room and dining room laminate floor.

Transition strips being installed.

Bob and Norm working on the installation of a new shower base. This job was a late addition to the work list when it was discovered that the old tub was cracked and not useable. Thanks to Josh our material supplier and his ability to come up with funding from the local Recovery Committee to make this home safe and functional for Ms Tomeka and family.

The home dedication on Thursday afternoon was a great time to connect with Ms Tomeka and her three children. Ms Tomeka was very grateful for the work we did for her. I don't think she expected to see so much change to happen in 2 weeks. Many hands make light work . . .

Annette presented a wall hanging to Ms Tomika which some Mennonite women made as a home blessing gift.

Robert (left) Ms Tomeka's dad is thanking Josh (right) for supplying the needed materials and then surprising him with also having the MDS team come and supply the labor. He said what we did in 2 weeks saved him at least six months of labor.

Our MDS crew with Ms Tomika and her family for a group shot.

Our crew usually goes out for breakfast on Friday, but this time we were gifted our breakfast by Robert (Ms Tomika's dad) as his thanks and a sign of appreciation for his daughter and grandchildren. Good food, lots of conversation, and hugs as well.
